Who is Sam?
He fought for a living. He still thinks he's nothing special.
Sam turned professional at 18 and spent the next fourteen years getting in a car to somewhere in Britain, or on a plane overseas, to fight whoever had been put in front of him. He won a British title, a Commonwealth title, a European title and a world title along the way, mostly as the away fighter, often at short notice.
Ask him about any of it and he'll shrug it off, get the tea on and talk about almost anything else instead. He talks to the man in the queue at the shop exactly the way he talks to a broadcaster. That gap — between what he's actually done and how ordinary he insists on being about it — is the thing that makes people lean in.
